Dinosaur Leather Model Kits
Janelle Becker is the leather artist who brought this project to life via Kickstarter. This is something I would have really liked to back, but just had my wallet being pulled too many directions in May. If you’ve ever seen those wooden dinosaur model kits, Skelosaurz takes that idea, but instead of wood uses leather. Again, this proves Kickstarter is a phenomenal place to buy dinosaur gifts. There are four basic Skelosaurz available, Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, and Brontosaurus. They all come with stands and a tool that helps you work out the leather. Don’t worry, all you need is water to whip these dinosaurs into shape. They look like really high quality, and some of the pictures on the Skelosaurz website are just amazing. They look like they would make a nice display piece, or even a fun project if you’re the DIY type. You can customize the leather to give your Skelosaurz a one-of-a-kind look. It’s leather, after all. Just check out some YouTube videos on decorating leather.
Once the Kickstarter pledges have been fulfilled, Skelosaurz are slated to go for sale online. Model kits aren’t all that is/was available. A keychain using the Tyrannosaur head in that amazing “buried brown” is floating around. The “buried brown” color is a great look for these dinosaur skeletons. The kits will run you about $50 USD, assuming the Kickstarter price holds. There are also Mosasaur, Trilobite, and Icthyosaur Skelosaurz available. They are more expensive, but one glance at them shows they have a little more to them than the basic models. The Mosasaur in particular looks pretty intense. I would love to pick up a Triceratops eventually. No idea where I’d put it, but I want it anyway.
